Homemade Beef Pho
Ingredients
- olive oil
- 1 yellow onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 lb ground beef
- salt
- 2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
- freshly ground pepper
- 5 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 inch piece ginger (peeled and grated)
- soy sauce
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 5 cups water
- 8 oz rice noodles
- cilantro (roughly chopped)
- jalapeño (sliced)
- lime wedges
- bean sprouts (rinsed)
- chili crunch
Directions

Heat olive oil over medium heat in a large dutch oven or big pot.

Once warm, add sliced onion and sauté for a few minutes.

Add ground beef and salt, cook, breaking the meat up until browned.

Add five-spice seasoning and pepper.

Mix well and cook for a few more minutes.

Pour out excess fat.

Add garlic, ginger, and soy sauce.

Cook until very fragrant, about 2 minutes.

Add chicken broth, water and bring to a boil.

While this is coming to a boil, in a different pot, add water and bring to a boil for your noodles.

Cook according to the package directions.

Once cooked, add noodles to the pho broth.

Mix well and remove from heat.

Ladle the soup into bowls and top with bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapeño, chili crunch, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice, enjoy!
